Notice of Invitation to Contractors for the Routine Term Maintenance
(Package -1: Sodo Section)

1. As part of the plan to meet an increasing program of care and maintenance to the country’s expanding federal road network, the Ethiopian Roads Authority intends extending its capacity by letting contract. To this end, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia through the Road Fund Administration Office has allocated sufficient budget for the Routine Term Maintenance (Package -1: Sodo Section).

2. The Sodo Section network is consisting of the following  roads:

1.  Sodo- Alaba                                  68.0 km (Paved Road)

2.  Sodo- Waka                                   97.5 km (Unpaved Road)

3.  Sodo- Mirab Abaya                       71.5 km (Paved Road)

4.  Mirab Abaya- Arab Minch            53.2 km (Paved Road)

5.  Arba Minch ? Wazeka                   36.3 km (Unpaved Road)

6.  Sodo- Selam Ber                            62.1 km (Unpaved Road)

7.  Selam Ber- Sawla                           74.6 km (Unpaved Road)

3. The Term Maintenance Contract is for a period of two years with a possible extension of one year based on performance of the Contractor.

4. The Ethiopian Roads Authority now invites all local contractors of category GC-3 and above registered at the Ministry of Infrastructure under the prevailing Finance Regulation issued by the Council of Ministers for the above-mentioned project.

5. Contractors should renew their registration License at least for 1996 Ethiopian Calendar year.

6. Interested bidders may collect the bidding  document from Ethiopian Roads Authority, Construction Contract  Implementation Division Office, 5th floor, Room No. 501, Fax 251-1- 51 48 66,  Tel. 15 36 01 and may obtain further information and inspect the bidding document at the office of EZECO-HEC JOINT VENTURE, P.O. Box 2200 Code 1110, Tel. 53 68 05, Fax 62 20 01 or 67 16 42, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (which is located at Ethiopian Teachers Association Building Second Floor just behind Science and Technology Commission).

7. The bidding document can be purchased as of February 7, 2005 on Presentation of a renewed registration certificate from Ministry of Infrastructure , VAT registration certificate and on submission of a written application to the General  Manager of ERA and also upon payment  of non-refundable  fee of Ethiopian  Birr 750 made payable  to Ethiopian  Roads Authority.

8. Bids for the subject project should be prepared in one original and four copies and must be submitted to the General Manager office, Ethiopian  Roads Authority, P.O. Box 1770, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Fax 251-1-51 48 66, Tel. 15 66 03 on or before March 01, 2005 at 2:30 P.M. local time.

9. Bids will be opened immediately after the closing time for submission in the presence of ERA Contract Award Committee & Contractors representatives who wish to attend.

10. A bid, which is received late, will not be considered.

11. ERA reserves the right to reject any or all bids.
